In Swahili, Limau means Lemon. The name is derived from the famous saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” At Limau, when life gives you cancer, you make a pink lemonade.

Our Core Values

Integrity - Patients and caregivers sit on the Limau Cancer Connection board in the spirit of the maxim “Nothing for us without us”. At least 80% of our total expenditure is directed towards mediative programs that address the organization’s mission of reducing breast cancer mortality rate.

Equity - At Limau, no one is left behind or discriminated against on the basis of their gender, sexual orientation, religion or philosophy of life.

Humanity - Considering the adverse negative impacts of breast cancer on victims and our community, we continually strive to operate within human values of community, empathy, kindness, compassion and familial love.

Inclusion - Cancer warriors’ lives matter. We care for and protect cancer warriors to always ensure that their voices are heard and expressed without fear of victimization based on their state of health.

Limau Cancer Connection is committed to strengthening and enhancing the health status of communities by creating awareness about breast cancer through an integrative education model.

Limau Cancer Connection has helped over 10,000 breast cancer warriors who have gone through Mastectomy and are walking without their natural breast(s) to access free knitted prostheses. These patients are also offered a chance to learn how to knit these prostheses from women knitting groups that we sponsor.

For the last 4 years, we have been carrying out a number of initiatives targeting warriors and our communities at large. These include hosting online interactive psychosocial support forum on Instant Messaging “WhatsApp” platform, a traveling photo exhibit, all of which are aimed at putting emphasis on the importance of early detection and promoting healthy lifestyle for prevention and management of breast cancer. The photo exhibits show the faces of real women across the state with breast cancer, and provides resources and information by sending thousands of FREE Friends Like Me care packages to newly diagnosed women.

By creating awareness, we are changing and saving women’s lives for healthier and more stable local communities.

Because of your stories…. your courage… your strength… together… We are saving women’s lives.

We are dedicated to getting women information, resources and psychosocial support they desperately need to fight and win against this deadly condition.

We are funding ideas that lead to new treatments and management procedures for affected members of the society.

We are  determined and focused on finding a cure for breast cancer now… so our daughters are protected in the future.

We strongly believe in taking proactive actions to save lives.

Referral networks: We offer referral services for treatment in different institutions in Kenya and around the world, psychosocial support, advocacy and research to influence cancer prevention and management policies, strategies and initiatives.
